Michelle B. Barnes

Founder/Executive Director

Michelle is a visionary nonprofit leader, storyteller, and advocate dedicated to empowering women and girls and strengthening communities across Arkansas.

 

As the Founder and Executive Director of Real Images, Michelle has spent over a decade creating transformative spaces where women can connect, heal, and grow. Since founding the organization in 2014, she has led initiatives that center authentic dialogue, self-discovery, and collective empowerment—impacting both women and youth through programs such as the MIRROR Project.

A native of Strong, Arkansas, Michelle’s work is rooted in a deep commitment to community-building and equity. Her professional background spans leadership roles in housing, education & community development, and state-wide innovation initiatives and collaboration that drive economic development.

Michelle is the Principal of M Barnes Coaching & Consulting, LLC. She offers her clients strategies and leadership practices that are both authentic and effective.

​

Michelle’s influence extends beyond organizational leadership into creative and cultural spaces. She is the voice behind The Respectable Woman Podcast, where she explores identity, truth, and the lived experiences of women with honesty and depth. Her work as a creative producer reflects her mission to amplify authentic stories—particularly those of women and people of color—through meaningful and impactful storytelling.

A recognized leader in the nonprofit sector, Michelle has served on numerous boards, including Central Arkansas Team Care for the Homeless (CATCH), Lucie’s Place, and Pulaski County CASA. She has been honored as a “20 Over 20” nonprofit professional by the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network–Little Rock and is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Leadership Greater Little Rock, Class XXXV.

Michelle holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Across every role, she brings a signature blend of strategic leadership, authenticity, and passion—championing spaces where individuals are empowered to become the best versions of themselves.
